As Executive Vice President & Chief People Officer for Viacom, Fukiko leads the company’s human resources organization and associated functions, as well as its security services. Prior to assuming her current role in 2018, Fukiko served as Senior Vice President of Viacom HR Business Operations & Information Solutions, where she led the Talent (Learning & Development, Organizational Effectiveness and Employee Engagement), HR Information and Analysis, HR Operations and Greenroom company portal teams. She began her career in publishing — working at Japan's largest daily newspaper, Yomiuri Shimbun, before heading off to Encyclopædia Britannica where she worked as an editor. After that, she joined Microsoft in software development, working on adapting consumer software, services and hardware for international markets; building solutions using Office as a “platform”; and delivering the marketplace and video components for Xbox Live. On the personal front, she is an Army Brat and grew up living all around the U.S. (e.g., Oklahoma, Virginia, Louisiana and California) and outside the U.S. (e.g., Germany, Japan and Okinawa). Fukiko graduated from Duke University with a degree in Comparative Area Studies, Modern Russia and Japan and has an MA in Far Eastern Languages and Civilization from The University of Chicago.
