Speaker Bio
Chris Kelly is a two-time WGA Award winner, a seven-time Emmy Award®-nominated writer and a Film Independent Spirit Award-nominated director who is proving himself to be a powerhouse multihyphenate in entertainment today. Kelly spent six years on Saturday Night Live, during which time he became one of the youngest Head Writers in the show’s history. His final year on the show was its landmark 42nd season, for which SNL won a Peabody Award for its political satire sketches. He is now headed back to TV as co-creator, co-writer, director and executive producer, alongside creative partner Sarah Schneider, on his new Comedy Central scripted series The Other Two. The show explores the lives of two struggling adult siblings whose younger brother becomes incredibly famous overnight. The wholly original The Other Two premiered January 24, 2019, on Comedy Central. While known for comedy, Kelly is equally adept at drama. His feature directorial debut Other People (which he also wrote) starred Jesse Plemons and Molly Shannon, and follows a struggling comedy writer fresh off a breakup in the midst of the worst year of his life, who returns home to care for his dying mother. Other People premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and garnered four Film Independent Spirit Award nominations including “Best First Feature” and “Best First Screenplay.” Along with SNL, Kelly wrote for three seasons on Broad City, which earned him a WGA TV nomination for “Comedy Series.” Prior to that, he wrote and directed content for Funny or Die and The Onion News Network, which received a Peabody Award during his tenure.
