As Chief Operating Officer for Paramount Pictures, Andrew Gumpert leads business affairs, as well as home entertainment and television transactional distribution, and is responsible for the studio’s primary operating functions, which include strategic planning, business development, legal and labor relations, human resources, studio operations, and parks and resorts.
Gumpert most recently served as President of Worldwide Business Affairs and Operations for the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group. Gumpert was responsible for worldwide business affairs and operations; identifying new and emerging revenue streams for the label’s theatrical releases; and integrally involved in securing co-financing arrangements. During his tenure at Sony Pictures Entertainment, he oversaw negotiations for many of the studio’s most high-profile productions and term deals, as well as structured and managed the studio’s financial partnerships with entities such as MGM, Lonestar Capital, Village Roadshow and the recent finance/marketing deal with the Dalian Wanda Group.
Gumpert joined Sony Pictures Entertainment in 2005, as Executive Vice President of Business Affairs for Columbia Pictures, and was promoted to president of Business Affairs and Administration for the label in 2008. In his years at Columbia, Gumpert oversaw negotiations for many of the studio’s most high-profile productions including The Amazing Spider-Man, Men in Black 3, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network, Grown Ups, 2012, Quantum of Solace, Hancock, Casino Royale, The Da Vinci Code, Spider-Man 3 and Superbad, among others.
Gumpert previously led Business and Legal Affairs for Miramax’s Dimension Films division for seven years under Harvey and Bob Weinstein. That position was preceded by Gumpert’s first tenure at Columbia in the Legal Department in 1995. He began his career as a business litigator with the law firm Hill, Wynne, Troop and Meisinger.
A native of Scarsdale, New York, Gumpert attended Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications, graduating in 1989, and then attended law school at American University’s Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C., graduating in 1992. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife Nicole and their three children.
